‘Delusions of Grandeur’

Leder is greatly influenced by the Impressionists—like them, working ‘en plein air,’ painting one subject at different times of day and during different seasons—as well as contemporary landscape artists like Richard Mayhew, whose improvisational work prioritizes emotion over realism.

Working loose and quickly, Leder endeavors to capture an experience before the light changes the scene, resulting in ethereal interpretations of fleeting moments. She sees the world as imperfect and in constant change and this is reflected in her work.

Her current exhibition, ‘Delusions of Grandeur’, explores the magic that is Mt. Tamalpais. This collection of work was born out of the Covid-19 pandemic, which encouraged Leder  to slow down, revisit her painting, and marvel at the ever-evolving natural world surrounding her mountaintop home.
