About

Artist Ilysa Leder works primarily in the Bay Area and upstate New York. Her creative pursuits include painting, mothering, and thread slinging at Always Lost Co.

Born and raised in New York, Leder’s artistic education began at the Met and Guggenheim, where she endlessly explored under the guidance of her grandmother. She began painting in high school, attending the Huntington School of Fine Art. After completing a BFA at SUNY Buffalo, Leder studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York City before moving to Miami for an advertising gig, at the then pinnacle of the field, Crispin Porter and Bogusky.

A lifetime of summers spent in the Catskills of upstate New York taught Leder the value and appreciation of  the natural world, and boredom as a path to creativity.

She carried those lessons with her to London, Miami, and Colorado, but ultimately, made her home on a mountaintop in Northern California, where she lives with her husband, two kiddos, and three fur babies.

Ilysa’s most meaningful  inspiration has been her children, constant sources of wonder, curiosity, and spontaneity.

Her greatest challenge is decisiveness and knowing when to stop.
